Frequently asked questions about the Wieliczka Salt Mine
Is this the official Wieliczka Salt Mine website?
No. Wieliczka Salt Mine Guide is an independent visitor guide. The mine is run by Kopalnia Soli “Wieliczka” S.A., whose official website is wieliczka-saltmine.com, and its official ticket shop is bilety.kopalnia.pl. We are not the mine and we do not work for it.
Are the Tiqets tours official mine tickets?
No. They are guided tours sold by our partner Tiqets, an independent company, and they include the mine entry. The mine states that it sells tickets only on its own website, at its ticket offices and at its vending machines, and that it does not work with intermediaries. If you want a plain entry ticket, buy it from the official shop.
How much does a ticket cost?
From the official 2026 price list, low season: 103 PLN for an adult in a Polish-language tour and 143 PLN in a foreign language, 82 and 121 PLN reduced, and free for children under 4. Medium and high season cost more. Confirm the prices on the official site before you pay.
How long does the visit take?
The mine gives 2 to 3 hours for the Tourist Route, including the underground exhibition of the Kraków Saltworks Museum. Allow extra time for the entrance procedures.
In which languages is the tour?
On the Tourist Route: Polish, English, German, French, Italian, Russian, Spanish and Ukrainian. The Miners’ Route is in Polish and English only. For languages other than Polish and English, buy the ticket online in advance.
Can I visit without a guide?
No. The Tourist Route is always guided.
When is the mine closed?
On 1 January, Easter Sunday, 1 November, 24 December and 25 December, according to the visiting rules. It can also close parts or shorten the hours for organisational, health, safety or weather reasons.
What time does the mine open?
The mine gives 08:00 to 18:00 for the Tourist Route and 09:00 to 17:00 for the Miners’ Route. Departure times depend on the day and appear in the ticket calendar of the official shop.
Do I need to book in advance?
Yes for any language other than Polish and English. For English, availability depends on the tickets not sold online, so we suggest booking ahead in busy periods; this is our advice, not an official rule.
How many steps are there? Is there a lift?
About 800 steps going down, 380 of them at the start, and the deepest point is 135 metres. You come back to the surface by lift from level III.
Is it cold underground?
The mine gives 17 to 18 °C on the Tourist Route and 14 to 16 °C on the Miners’ Route, with humidity up to 75%. Bring a jumper and comfortable shoes.
Can I take photos?
Yes. The mine says photos and filming are allowed during the visit. Commercial use needs the permission of the mine. Open flames, torches, smoking and e-cigarettes are forbidden.
Can I bring a stroller, or visit with reduced mobility?
The mine does not recommend strollers and accepts only a folding umbrella stroller. An adapted route for visitors with reduced mobility exists by reservation only (rezerwacja@kopalnia.pl), at the first or last tour of the day. The official page also carries notices of suspension for works at the Daniłowicz Shaft and we could not confirm the current status, so write to the mine before you plan.
Can I take children?
Yes, there is no minimum age on the Tourist Route and children under 4 are free. The Miners’ Route is for ages 10 and over. The Karczma Górnicza tavern underground has changing tables and high chairs.
How do I get there from Kraków?
By suburban train (line SKA1) from Kraków Główny to Wieliczka Rynek-Kopalnia, by bus 304, by car or with a tour that includes transport. See the directions page. Journey times are not published by the mine.
